Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does drop off & pick up work at BES?

A: Parents of car riders will remain in cars the entire time of drop-off and pick-up. They will enter the drive off of Leavenworth Road on the far East entrance next to the Special Education Center.

Drop-Off: follow the flow of traffic in one lane until you reach the front of the school building where there is a sidewalk.  At 8:45am there are teachers that will open car doors to let out children safely.  If you drop off before, children will need to be able to let themselves out on their own.  When exiting, the West lane is for turning westbound onto Leavenworth Road; while the East lane is for turning to go eastbound on Leavenworth Road.

Pick-Up: follow the flow of traffic in two lanes.  Please have your laminated name plate with your child’s name displayed for quicker pick-up. Parents will pull up to a teacher holding a number outside the main front doors of the school. Your child will then walk out to the teacher with the corresponding number. The teacher will help your child enter the vehicle.  When exiting, the West lane is for turning westbound onto Leavenworth Road; while the East lane is for turning to go eastbound on Leavenworth Road.

Q: What is Chilingo?
A: Chilingo is a favorite night out for parents and students!  This is a fun evening when all Bluejay families come to enjoy a night of Bingo and delicious chili (prepared by classroom teachers and judged by local community members). The classroom chili cook-off winner is announced and presented the Chilingo trophy. Cash donations to the Basehor Bluejay PTO are welcome but not required. We also assist Basehor-Linwood Assistance Services by collecting nonperishable food items.

Q: How does the Basehor Bluejay PTO earn money? How are those funds used?
A: Our organization earns money in three main ways - through donations, through fundraising, and by participating in the Box Tops for Education, Coca-Cola Gives, and the Amazon Smile programs. We have two main fundraisers - the trash bag fundraiser which happens in the fall and the silent auction which happens during our spring carnival. Additionally, money is earned during dine-to-donate events throughout the year. We are very thankful for the businesses that generously partner with us to make the dine-to-donate events possible. Visit "How the Basehor Bluejay PTO Gives Back" for a closer look at how our organization supports and provides for the students, teachers, and staff of BES and BIS.

Q: When should I arrive for a class party?
A: We recommend arriving 20-30 minutes early. You will have to wait patiently and quietly until the party begins, but you will be able to secure a better parking space with less walking if you arrive early. This is especially important if you are helping to coordinate a class party.  Upon arrival, you will need to check in at the office. Typically, there will be tables set up in the entrance to allow several visitors to check in at once.
