Dr. Pretz currently serves as the principal at Hocker Grove Middle School in the Shawnee Mission School District, but has also worked as principal at Turner Middle School and as an assistant principal at Turner High School. Dr. Pretz began his career as a business teacher at Emporia High School in 2000.
“We are excited to have Dr. Pretz join the Basehor-Linwood School District in this capacity,” Superintendent David Howard said. “He is a student-focused leader with a positive attitude, great energy and a passion for education that will be a welcome addition to our staff.”
The Director of Teaching and Learning reinstates a position that was cut from the District Office for budgeting purposes in 2010. Because of growth in enrollment and staffing at USD 458, the position will focus on building data driven curriculum and instruction for student growth.
“I am excited to be joining the Basehor-Linwood School District,” Dr. Pretz said. “The collegial culture of the district and community are just a few of the many attributes that I am honored to be a part of.”
Dr. Pretz earned his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Emporia State University in 2003, an Education Specialist degree from Pittsburg State University in 2015, and, most recently, completed his Doctorate in Education Administration in 2017. He has been recognized by the Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators as a 2017 Outstanding Principal and as a Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals Principal of the Year for Area 1.
“I have been impressed by the community and staff commitment to create one of the finest school districts in the Kansas City metro area,” Pretz said. “I look forward to working with the staff and community to continue to grow and develop the instructional initiatives at Basehor-Linwood.”
